As 2024 comes to a close, the Broken to Brilliant Board extends our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible volunteers who made this year one of transformation, growth, and hope. With over 70 extraordinary individuals contributing their time, talent, and passion, our charity flourished, reaching new heights and made a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors.
On December 1st, we gathered at Paint 'n' Unwind in South Brisbane to celebrate these remarkable individuals at our Volunteer Christmas Party. It was a heartfelt Christmas party filled with gratitude, laughter, and humble stories of contribution. Each volunteer had the opportunity to share how they contributed to the charity’s success, a beautiful reminder of the diverse and invaluable ways these amazing volunteers bring our mission to life.
Volunteers: The Heart of Broken to Brilliant
Our volunteers come from all occupations, bringing their unique skills and experiences to strengthen our community. Broken to Brilliant Volunteers are accountants, lawyers, survivors, counsellors, art therapists, artists, photographers, nurses, bookkeepers, ballet dancers, tax agents, money coaches, program managers, event coordinators, disability support workers, removalists, mental health officers, psychologists, equine psychotherapists, social workers, retail managers, and horse trainers and specialists.
Together, this incredible tapestry of expertise and lived experience allows us to deliver trauma-informed, survivor-led programs that empower domestic violence survivors to heal, rebuild, and thrive.
Small Acts of Kindness, Big Impacts
This year, we were especially touched by the thoughtful and creative contributions that made our Christmas gifts to Broken to Brilliant’s volunteers truly special. These heartfelt gestures added a distinctive touch as we expressed our gratitude for the incredible work our volunteers did throughout the year:
Lucy’s homemade chutneys featured four delicious varieties: capsicum and eggplant relish, apricot chutney, apple chutney, and Christmas chutney. Each jar was adorned with a festive tag from Broken to Brilliant that read:
Merry Christmas from Kate, Andrea, Margaret, Karen, Kris, and Jamie. “Thank you for being the secret ingredient to our success.”
Margaret carefully selected books from our collection, curating a thoughtful mix of impactful non-fiction and captivating fiction reads. Colleen wrapped each book with care, turning them into gifts of inspiration and escape for our volunteers.
Becky B Hair generously donated gorgeous hair care products, for a little self-care.
Kylie grew lush healthy Hydrocotyle vulgaris, the marsh moneywort plant, this plant symbolizes growth, generosity, and the strength that comes from nurturing new beginnings.
These kind and powerful gestures exemplify the heart and soul of our community. They reflect the compassion, creativity, and dedication that drive everything we do—a network of individuals working together to create brighter futures for domestic violence survivors.
These gifts were created with time, energy, kindness and care. They are a testament to the spirit of Broken to Brilliant. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this Christmas special for our volunteers. Together, we continue to grow, heal, and build brilliant tomorrows.
A Special Raffle Prize to Celebrate Our Volunteers
We were delighted to include a special raffle prize at this year’s Volunteer Christmas Party, thanks to the generous donation of a gourmet hamper from the Office of Shane King, State Labor Member for Kurwongbah.
With so many volunteers dedicating countless hours to Broken to Brilliant, we decided to host a lucky door prize to show our appreciation. The lucky winner was Tori, a dedicated volunteer who has been an integral part of the Financial Superwomen program since its launch. Congratulations, Tori, and thank you to Shane King’s office for adding an extra special moment to our volunteer Christmas party.
A Year of Achievements
From running our programs—HEART, RESTORE, Financial Superwomen, Legal Laureates, Speechcraft, Rise to Rebuild, Cultivation Brilliance, and Police Recruit Education to ensuring our governance, fundraising, Op Shops and social media thrive, our volunteers have been the foundation of Broken to Brilliant’s success.
Our volunteer patrons and ambassadors who lend their name to our charity, played an invaluable role this year. They provided vital connections, wrote and released music with a message, and shared advice, support, and guidance, helping us expand our reach and strengthen our mission. We warmly welcomed Lisa, our new Patron to Broken to Brilliant.
Broken to Brilliant Volunteers raised awareness, empowered survivors, and strengthened our community through tireless efforts in education, advocacy, networking, fundraising and outreach.
You are not just part of Broken to Brilliant; you are Broken to Brilliant.
Celebrating Together
Hosting the Volunteer Christmas Party gave us the chance to pause, reflect, and celebrate all that we’ve achieved together. As each volunteer shared their story, it became clear that Boken to Brilliant Volunteers are the threads weaving the fabric of our charity. Without your dedication, creativity, and brilliance, we simply couldn’t do what we do.
Looking Ahead
As we move into 2025, we are inspired by your passion and look forward to continuing this journey together. With your unwavering support, Broken to Brilliant will keep empowering survivors, raising awareness, and building a brighter, more resilient community.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your dedication, compassion, and brilliance. Here’s to an incredible 2024 and an even brighter 2025!
With deepest gratitude,
The Broken to Brilliant Board
